ICE Agent Points Gun At Woman Driving Car, Prompts Police Response In OC: Police

An ICE agent pointed a gun at a woman, alleging that she was following and recording him, on Sunday afternoon.

ORANGE COUNTY, CA — An ICE agent in plain clothes prompted a police response after he allegedly pointed a gun at a female driver on a busy street in Santa Ana, the Fullerton Police Department reported.

The encounter, which was partially captured on video and posted to Instagram by LA Taco contributor Izzy Mirez, showed a man with a badge on his waist brandishing a gun toward a female driver in a busy intersection.

The officer had just dropped off an inmate at the Orange County Jail and was returning to Fullerton when he noticed a man exit a vehicle at an intersection and draw his weapon on the driver behind him, according to a statement released by the Fullerton Police Department.

"The officer immediately stopped to assist, not knowing the identity of the armed male or the circumstances unfolding in front of him," according to the statement.

The man accused the female driver of "following him" during an "operation," the video showed.

"I'm just driving," she can be heard saying the video.

"You're following us, ma'am, we are doing an operation," the agent responds.

"You are following me," she said.

Police said that once the agent identified himself, the officer told him "he could not assist with someone following or recording him if no crime had occurred, and that local law enforcement was en route."

Police said the woman left the area and the Fullerton police officer "reiterated" that he could not assist the ICE agent if no crime had taken place. The officer then left, police said.

ICE spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin told The Orange County Register that the civilian driver allegedly screamed at the officer and tried to cause a crash.
