📰 Here are the top stories today in Orange County:
- Ladera Ranch stabbing update: Earlier, we reported on the teen who was stabbed near Eton Park. Now, we learned that the police are looking for six suspects who were riding electric bikes. A good Samaritan resident, who assisted the boy and kept him safe, said the teen stated masked attackers were chasing him. In the age of recording doorbells, the Sheriff’s Department is working with residents to check recordings that may help identify suspects. Neighbors are shaken; “you don't expect that to happen in Ladera,” the helpful resident said. (Patch, 2, CBS)
- Disneyland’s Downtown Disney in Anaheim doubled down on its decision to let go of visitor favorites. Earlier, we talked about Catal Restaurant and the Uva Bar closing. Now, we hear that Sprinkles Cupcakes closed its doors. On the flip side are the incoming businesses: Clyde’s Hot Chicken, which will operate a food cart; Din Tai Fung; Porto’s Bakery; and the Paseo Lounge that will do business in the former Uva Bar space. Insiders have a mixed reaction to the rebranding of Ralph Brennan’s Jazz Kitchen, which reportedly includes a “totally uninspired” new sign and building upgrades with a “generic mall design.” (Mice Chat)
- Speaking of Disneyland, on Thursday, visitors to the park had to exercise patience as the company dealt with a computer system crash. Turnstiles entryways didn’t turn, Magicbands were spotty, and Magic Key holders couldn’t get their discounts for park purchases. In the parking areas, barcodes didn’t scan, adding to drivers' frustration. Hitting just before noon, it took about an hour to fix things. (KTLA)
- And, while we’re on the topic of amusement parks, Knott's Berry Farm in Buena Park and Soak City will bring back the chaperone policy. Teens under the age of 15 must be with an adult of at least 21 to get in or stay after 4 p.m. Oh, and one adult can supervise no more than 10 teens. You may remember that the company had to deal with large group fights that forced it to close its gates last year. (Patch)
- If you’re still looking for something to do on April 29, consider heading to Newport Beach for the OrangewoodFEST. It’s a fundraiser for the Orangewood Foundation, which works with foster youths, and promises to be lots of fun. The event runs from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., features “turf fitness classes, silent disco yoga, bounce houses, and beach games,” and includes music by the Tijuana Dogs. Local vendors will also be in attendance. (OrangewoodFEST)
