📰 Here are the top stories in Orange County today:

  1. Rancho Santa Margarita was the scene of a textbook low-angle rope rescue on Monday. A truck drove off the edge of Alicia Parkway close to the Santa Margarita Parkway. It came to a stop around 120 feet down the hillside. Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA) personnel deployed quickly and rescued the patient, who was taken to a local hospital. (OCFA)
  2. The Santa Ana city council voted to have major public works contracts “use at least 30 percent of total work hours on specialized labor from local residents and veterans.” The agreement lasts for a decade and applies to contracts exceeding $750,000 or specialty work worth more than $100,000. This is great news for the “hiring halls of the 26 unions that have signed onto to the city’s contract with the Los Angeles/Orange Counties Building & Construction Trades Council.” (Voice of OC)
  3. On a scale from one to 20, how bad is inflation in the OC? Factoring in consumer price index changes over the last few months and comparing them to the last year, the Los Angeles/Long Beach/Anaheim area comes in at No. 16. Worse off are San Diego/Carlsbad at No. 7 and Riverside/San Bernardino/Ontario in No. 13. In California, the only area better off is the San Francisco/Oakland/Hayward region in No. 18. (WalletHub)
  4. What is the quality of life like in Seal Beach? The police department wants to know and will host a virtual town hall on June 22. Officials intend to “create an open dialogue and address key concerns related to quality-of-life issues in town, the homelessness crisis, and the SBPD's community-oriented policing efforts.” Police Chief Michael Henderson will be participating. (Patch)
  5. Just a day earlier, on June 21, you can have a slice of pizza with a purpose. The California Pizza Kitchen in the Seal Beach Rossmoor Center will donate 20 percent of profits to the Seal Beach Animal Center. You can show the flyer that’s online or simply mention the animal center. Or, if you’re ordering online, enter "Back20%" when checking out. (Seal Beach Animal Center)
