📰 Here are the top stories today in Orange County:

  1. A 33-year-old Fresno man suspected of carjacking a motorist led police officers on a high-speed chase through Fullerton. Reportedly, he found a woman sitting in an SUV in a parking structure, produced a shank, and ordered her out. Officers attempted to pull over the car, but he began a dangerous race through the city. He was arrested and is now looking at “up to 15 years in federal prison” if convicted. (KTLA)
  2. Do Huntington Beach libraries contain books city leaders find objectionable? “Our city libraries should not be engaged in infecting our children with obscenity or pornography,” warned Councilwoman Gracey Van Der Mark. In response, she’s looking to have the city attorney review books and take objectionable ones “out of places minors could access.” (Voice of OC)
  3. Who won the 2023 OC Fair Home Wine Competition? Out of 595 California entries, judges selected 68 for double gold medal awards and 95 for gold medals. The best-of-show winners came from Chino, Santa Maria, La Mesa, and Concord. (Wine Industry Advisor)
  4. OC residents are living on credit again, and some cities are worse at it than others. Researchers have found that American consumers have made the “second-smallest first-quarter credit card debt paydown in the past decade.” Rating cities from one to 182, the Orange County city with the highest year-over-year credit card debt increase is Huntington Beach at No. 13. On the other end of the spectrum is Garden Grove at No. 39. (WalletHub)
  5. Capistrano Beach Park and Doheny State Beach received the first truckloads of sand. Orange County supervisors expect another 3,000 or so loads to be delivered to counteract coastal erosion. Where is the sand coming from? The Santa Ana River, where storm flows created a sediment trap that needs to be removed. (Patch)
