Good morning, Orange County! Today’s National Yo-Yo Day; did you know that the first depiction of a yo-yo dates back to Ancient Greece, but it reportedly came to the United States with young Pedro Flores from the Philippines sometime in the 1920s? I'm here per usual to tell you what's going on in the area, including news on:

  • 😋 The Tustin Street Fair & Chili Cook-Off.
  • ⚾ The Angels of Anaheim stadium repairs.
  • ⚠️ Transients breaking into campus buildings.

📰 Here are the top stories today in Orange County:

  1. Early on Monday, the Orange County Fire Authority responded to the 900 block of E. Second St. in Santa Ana. There, firefighters found several pallets on fire outside a structure. “Businesses in that area include Certified Auto Salvage and Deaver Off Road Suspensions.” It took about an hour to extinguish the flames; nobody was injured, and it’s now time for fire investigators to determine the cause. (New Santa Ana)
  2. A 34-year-old man allegedly trespassed on the Cal State Fullerton campus on Thursday. Equipped with 25 throwing stars, law enforcement identified him as being “wanted on warrants for sexual assault and assault on a police officer.” For many students and faculty members, it is time for summer vacation, which “prompts local transients to break into campus buildings,” a member of the Cal State Fullerton police said. (Patch)
  3. The Angels of Anaheim play in a publicly owned stadium. The aging ballpark needs around $150 million in upgrades, and the team wants Anaheim to chip in. However, according to the original lease, the team is on the hook for the bill. The city council hired a design firm to assess the stadium’s condition and put a dollar value on needed improvements. We have no word what will happen when the assessment is complete. (Voice of OC)
  4. On Sunday was the 39th annual Tustin Street Fair and Chili Cook-Off. Judges tasted red chili, salsa, and more. Brave souls competed in a jalapeño eating contest, while kids could participate in a watermelon eating contest. Proceeds from the event stay in the community; this year’s recipients are the Tustin High School Football Boosters Club and the Tustin Host Lions Club. Last year, local non-profits received $18,500. (Tustin Parks & Recreation, 2, The Orange County Register/paywall)
  5. Clean Juice celebrated the grand opening of its fifth California location on Monday. The latest franchise opened up at 34201 Street of the Amber Lantern in Dana Point. This business is an “organic juice and lite snack café” with a neighborhood feel. If you want to get your kids into juicing, youngsters under 12 “get a free kid’s smoothie every Monday” while you buy your drink. (Clean Juice, Benzinga)

Their goal was to make it the largest volunteer day in Marriott history. Twenty-seven GMs came to Double R Ranch to help with gardening, landscaping, beautification and fire prevention needs. They also helped clean housing units for future residents. What an amazing display of what leadership should look like!" (Orange County Rescue Mission via Facebook)
