📰 Here are the top stories today in Orange County:
- The Newport Beach pier was the scene of a Friday night shooting. Police responded around 10:30 p.m. to the area near McFadden Place and Oceanfront. A man was shot in the face but survived. We don’t yet know if the suspect, “described as an adult white male,” is in custody. (Patch, KTLA)
- On Sunday, two men died in a parking structure at 400 Disney Way in Anaheim. Just outside the GardenWalk shopping district, law enforcement was alerted to the double homicide around 2:30 a.m. Reportedly, “a large fight” had broken out along Katella Avenue and might have led to the killings. (Patch, ABC)
- Do you remember when Huntington Beach banned the Pride flag from flying on its city properties? Pushback came Sunday when protesters unfurled a 33 feet by 24 feet Pride flag on the Huntington Beach Pier. Holding it over each side of the pier for half an hour, they wanted to “stay seen and heard” by the city’s new, more conservative city council. (LAist)
- Stanton neighbors may see a 2024 ballot measure to limit terms of service for the mayor. City council members voted 3-2 to “research creating mayoral term limits.” It’s important to note that these members are already bound by limits of two terms of four years each. The two votes against the move were Mayor David Shawver and Mayor Pro Tem Hong Alyce Van. (Voice of OC)
- Kontiki Cove at Irvine’s Wild Rivers Waterpark hosted its grand opening Saturday. In addition to the media, there were pirates and mermaids. The new attraction features five slides that comprise a “kiddie waterslide complex” specifically for toddlers and up. “These are small versions of some of the larger slides at Wild Rivers, including enclosed and open body slides, and a side-by-side racing body slide.” (KTLA, Wild Rivers)
