🦸 Superpower Poll!
A 2018 survey found that Americans would love to have the superpower of healing others. If we take this one off the table, which superpower would you love to have?
- 29.4 percent: The ability to fly
- 17.6 percent: The ability to time travel or the ability to read minds
- 11.8 percent: The ability to become invisible
- 5.9 percent: Superhuman strength, teleport, healing, or win select lotteries and give money away
📰 Here are the top stories today in Orange County:
- Garden Grove’s The Hot Restaurant in the 12000 block of Magnolia Street was the scene of a shooting on Saturday. A suspect opened fire just before the lunch rush and hit three victims. Reportedly, all four were patrons and got into an altercation before shots rang out. Other patrons detained the shooter. (CBS)
- Smoking in Buena Park may soon become more restrictive. The city council will consider adding to the municipal code to “ban smoking of tobacco products in outdoor dining, multi-unit residential developments, and public areas, such as sidewalks.” Officials intend for the code amendment to take effect in July, but they plan on increasing awareness about the law for about six months, which means that violators won’t have to pay fines for lighting up in the wrong places during this grace period. (Voice of OC)
- Griffin Colapinto of San Clemente is now No. 1 in the men’s rankings of the World Surf League (WSL) Championship Tour. Nipping at his heels are two Brazilians and two Australians. “Colapinto is now ranked No. 1 in the world and stands a very strong chance of making it into the Rip Curl WSL Finals at Lower Trestles this September.” On the women’s side, Carissa Moore of Hawaii is in the top spot. Two Australians and two Americans follow her. Among the latter is Caroline Marks from San Clemente in the fourth spot. “Moore now sits ranked No. 1 in the world, while Marks sits in fourth — both with a good shot at making the Rip Curl WSL Finals.” Congratulations! (Dana Point Times, World Surf League)
- A coyote thought it had found an easy meal in two little dogs in a Mission Viejo backyard. However, one of the dogs, an 11-year-old Maltese with three teeth and a weight of 10 pounds, wasn’t having it. When the coyote cornered and picked up its brother, the little dog sprang into action and chased the large predator away. The dogs’ owners “are hoping to get the message out to people that everyone should be taking measures to protect their pets from coyotes.” (Patch, KTLA)
- It’s curtains for Splash Mountain in Buena Park’s Disneyland. On Tuesday, log flume ride fans got in their final turns. The attraction will now be dismantled and revamped to become Tiana's Bayou Adventure, with an expected opening date of sometime in 2024. Disney's officials believe the new ride will remind guests that “within us lies the potential to make our dreams come true.” (Patch)
