FOUNTAIN VALLEY, CA — Authorities released footage this week of a dangerous crash into a utility pole that almost led to further harm when sparks began flying from damaged power lines.

The incident was posted on Instagram by the Fountain Valley Police Department, who described the video as "electrifying body camera footage" to social media this week.

The video shows the moment streaks erupted after a DUI suspect struck the pole.

The video starts with officers arriving at the scene after the crash. The officer wearing the bodycam filming the interaction is seen rushing to get out of his vehicle to approach the suspect when the massive spark bolts in the power lines overhead.

"Get back! Get back!" one officer is heard yelling.

"This serves as a stark reminder not only of the potentially deadly consequences of reckless/drunk driving, but also the dangerous situations our officers often find themselves in while protecting and serving our community," the department stated.
