Butte County Extends Public Safety Hiring Bonuses (gridleyherald.com) — If you live in Oroville, your sheriff’s deputies and prosecutors could soon be easier to hire and keep, as Butte County has extended large hiring bonuses for key public safety positions through June 30, 2026. The move aims to ease chronic staffing shortages, with bonuses up to $50,000 for some roles and added incentives for new deputy district attorneys handling heavy caseloads.
   

2. Oroville biomass energy talks continue, no official plans set (fresnobee.com) — Oroville officials, residents, and biomass developers spent more than three hours debating potential biomass energy plants in and around south Oroville, with many neighbors demanding clearer information and more say. City staff stressed that no formal applications or hearings are filed yet, while environmental advocates raised concerns about dioxins, truck traffic, air quality, and whether promised jobs would truly benefit local residents.
   

3. Probationer caught with meth during late-night traffic stop in Oroville (krcrtv.com) — Late Monday night, a Butte County sheriff’s deputy stopped a car near Cherokee Road and Thompson Flat Cemetery Road in Oroville and reported finding meth and drug paraphernalia. The driver, a 27-year-old Oroville resident on county probation, was arrested and booked into Butte County Jail on suspicion of probation violation and drug possession.
   

4. Vollendroff Named Wrestler of the Week (chadronradio.com) — An Oroville-born wrestler is making national waves, as Chadron State senior Brianna Vollendroff has been named RMAC Women’s Wrestler of the Week after dominating the Bob Smith Fort Hays Open and extending her unbeaten streak to 10 matches. Her recent run includes back-to-back tournament titles and multiple pins and technical falls, showcasing a standout season for the Oroville native.
   

5. More than 500 PG&E customers without power Wednesday night as crews work to restore service (actionnewsnow.com) — Hundreds of PG&E customers in Butte County, potentially including some in the Oroville area, are without power after an unplanned outage along Dayton Road Wednesday night. Crews are inspecting lines and making repairs after initially more than 1,400 customers were affected, with service already restored to many and about 578 still in the dark as of 8:15 p.m.
