American Heart Association Recognizes CVWD

From CVWD: The American Heart Association has designated the Coachella Valley Water District (CVWD) as a “Fit-Friendly Worksite,” recognizing the district’s commitment to employee wellness.

CVWD has increased its wellness offerings over the past three years with a variety of resources including biometric testing, interactive online competitions, the installation of healthy markets in employee breakrooms in lieu of traditional vending machines, and rewards for those who use fitness trackers. The district also hosts an annual wellness fair for its employees, retirees and their families that includes health-related exhibits from local vendors.

“This award reflects well on the efforts of the employees who pulled together our wellness program,” said CVWD General Manager Jim Barrett. “It also justifies the accomplishments that the employees as a whole have been able to gain from this process.”

The award was presented Jan. 24 at the CVWD board meeting. The American Heart Association in February announced the evolution and expansion of Fit-Friendly into a new, more comprehensive workplace health program: Workplace Health Solutions. The program offers a suite of evidence-based tools to help employees get the most out of their workplace health program.

The Coachella Valley Water District is a public agency governed by a five-member board of directors. The district provides domestic and irrigation water, agricultural drainage, wastewater treatment and reclamation services, regional stormwater protection, groundwater management and water conservation. It serves approximately 109,000 residential and business customers across 1,000 square miles, located primarily in Riverside County, but also in portions of Imperial and San Diego counties.
