Desert Sands Considering 82 Layoffs

According to state law, school districts are required to notify teachers by March 15 about any possibly layoffs and final notices have to go out by May 15.

Board members of the Desert Sands Unified School District will weigh tomorrow whether to start the process of laying off 82 employees.

The meeting is set for 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 5 in the Boardroom of the District Education Center, 47950 Dune Palms Road, in La Quinta.

The board of education will consider whether to send initial layoff notices to 55 K-12 teachers, 12 elementary counselors, 11 preschool teachers and four project teachers, according to MyDesert.com.
