Dog That Survived Deadly Crash Reunited With Arizona Owner

Sugar Bear and her owner both survived the wreck on Interstate 10 near Jefferson Street last week.

A Collie-mix who survived a fatal I-10 crash last week has been reunited with her owner.

Howard Sands of Arizona -- the driver of a tractor that jackknifed on Interstate 10 near Jefferson Street -- picked up Sugar Bear on Saturday at the Coachella Valley Animal Campus, according to John Welsh, a spokesman for the Riverside County Department of Animal Services.

The 8-year-old, well-cared-for Collie had been picked up at the scene of the deadly crash by Animal Services, which took her to Thousand Palms to be examined by veterinarians.

Harry Griffith, 53, of Redwood City was killed in the crash when his vehicle was struck by the tractor trailer, according to the Riverside County Coroner's Office.
