Federer To Face American Favorite at Indian Wells

The match will follow the WTA final featuring Australian Open finalists Victoria Azarenka and Maria Sharapova at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, California.

Roger Federer will play for his third title in as many tournaments Sunday in Indian Wells, against a surprise finalist American John Isner.

Isner, who quickly became a fan favorite during Saturday's semi-final victory over No. 1 Novak Djokovic, recently beat Federer in the Davis Cup.

"Roger, since I did beat him, he has not lost. He's won 14, 15 matches in a row, whatever it may be. He's obviously playing well," Isner said.

Federer advanced with a decisive win against No. 2 Rafael Nadal at the BNP Paribas Open.

"I will be interested to see how it goes tomorrow (Sunday). Without taking anything away from John in Switzerland, the conditions were extremely tough for both of the players. It was altitude, it was a clay that was virtually unplayable," Federer said.

He said that he is looking forward to the match.

"John is playing great tennis at the moment, and I'm sure for a long period of time. It's great and exciting for American tennis, and I'm happy it's happening in the finals, this rematch for me. So I look forward to that a lot," Federer said.

The match will follow the WTA final featuring Australian Open finalists Victoria Azarenka and Maria Sharapova.

Azarenka, currently ranked No. 1, beat No. 2 Sharapova 6-3, 6-0 in Australia.
