Modernism Week CEO Takes The Helm

PALM SPRINGS, CA — The newly appointed chief executive officer of Modernism Week -- the annual festival that highlights midcentury modern architecture in the Palm Springs area -- began her role Wednesday.

"She (Linda Vossler Smith) did an outstanding job running the organization during the pandemic when we adjusted our business model to adapt to the national crisis," Modernism Week board of directors chairman William Kopelk said. "We have the utmost confidence in her abilities and look forward to working with her in her new role as CEO."

Smith was the executive director for Modernism Week since 2013 before being promoted to her new role effective Wednesday. She volunteered at the annual festival since it began in 2005.

Officials said Smith grew up in the Coachella Valley and has a history of nonprofit leadership roles and promoting cultural tourism.

She was chosen as one of the "40 Under 40" Young Leaders by Palm Springs Life, "Top Business Leader in the Community" by Women in Business Awards, and received the Desert Visionary Award by the Women Leaders Forum.

Smith has also served on various community boards in the Coachella Valley, including the Junior League of the Palm Springs Desert Communities, the Architecture and Design Council of the Palm Springs Art Museum, the Boys and Girls Club of Palm Springs and the California Preservation Foundation Annual Conference Steering Committee.

Four other people were also promoted to new roles for Modernism Week to support the growing year-round operation. The festival's senior management team includes director of e-commerce Davy Aker, director of operations and controller John Miraglia, director of sponsorship Sara Dawson and director of partner events Alex Addrisi.

Modernism Week returns to Palm Springs in October for four days with over 50 events, including tours, talks and parties in unique locations.
