Palm Desert Aquatic Center Offering New Programs

The Center now offers spin cycling on pool deck, morning yoga, seasonal swim lessons, safety courses, and recreational swim pool re-opens.

From PDAC: Palm Desert Aquatic Center (PDAC) continues to expand its programming making it more than just a swim center and aquatic park. While the water exercise classes have grown in popularity, there is now spin class cycling on the pool deck as well as Sunrise Yoga, offering a unique outdoor experience in a beautiful setting. Swim lesson sign-ups are also now open, as well as sign-ups for CPR courses and lifeguarding certification, and the recreational pool re-opens.

Kicking off the month of March, PDAC is participating in the City of Palm Desert’s First Weekend of arts, cultural and fitness activities with outdoor Sunrise Yoga on Sunday, March 5th at 7 a.m. The one hour class costs $7 per person and is taught by an instructor from Yoga Central. PDAC also offers Restorative Yoga on Tuesday and Thursday from 8:15 to 9:15 a.m., and Chair Yoga on Friday from 10 to 10:45 a.m., of which both are offered year-round and take place indoors.


With instruction and energizing music, spin cycling classes are now offered on the pool deck on Monday and Friday from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m.for Morning Cycle; Wednesday from 4 to 4:30 p.m. for Beginner Cycle; and Tuesday and Thursday from 5 to 6 p.m. for Sunset Cycle. The cost is $8 per class, or $69 for monthly unlimited participation. There is a limit of 13 cycles, which are available on a first-come first-serve basis. PDAC also offers fun water exercise classes including Shallow Water Exercise, Deep Water Exercise, Deep Water Boot Camp, and a Basic Arthritis and Injury Rehab Water Exercise class; and lap swimming hours are offered daily. Schedules and fees can be viewed at www.pdpool.com.

As spring fast approaches, PDAC has opened group youth swim lesson sign-ups, for ages 6 months (with parent swimmer) to 17 years. Classes are taught by trained swim instructors certified through American Red Cross. The cost is $60 for Palm Desert residents and $80 for non-residents. The three-week courses take place every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from either 4 to 4:30 p.m., 4:40 to 5:10 p.m., or 5:20 to 5:50 p.m. Session dates are from Feb. 27 to March 17, March 20 to April 7, April 17 to May 5, May 8 to May 26, and May 30 to June 16. Space is limited and available on a first-come first-service basis, with the last day to register being the Friday before the start date of the session.


PDAC is also offering safety classes including CPR/AED/First Aid and lifeguarding courses. Participants in the CPR/AED/First Aid class will learn to recognize and respond to sudden illnesses, heat and cold emergencies, and other potentially life-threatening circumstances. Additionally, they will learn first aid for everything from cuts and scrapes to muscles, joint and bone injuries. This course combines lectures, demonstrations and video with hands-on training and practice. The one-day class costs $75 and takes place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the following dates: March 25 April 12, April 19, May k13, May 27, and June 10. The American Red Cross lifeguarding course certifies participants for two years with lifeguarding, CPR, first aid and AED course completion. It includes lectures, demonstrations, video, and hands-on training and practice. The cost is $250 and includes a California State required Title 22 certification. Recreational swim is now open on Saturdays and Sundays being closed for winter, along with diving boards, slides and the water play areas, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Zero Depth pool is also now open Monday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
