Wendy Jonathan Enters Race For School Board

Out of the 150 who attended the kick off party included Palm Desert Councilwoman Jan Harnik, Mayor Pro Tem Bill Kroonen, Mayor Robert Spiegel and Palm Springs Unified School District Board Member Gary Jeandron.

With the support of several local officials, Wendy Jonathan kicked off her campaign last week for one of three spots on the Desert Sands Unified School District Education Board.

Jonathan -- a second grade teacher at -- announced her intentions at Casuelas Café in Palm Desert last Wednesday.

The seats of current board members Jim Koedyker, Matt Monica and Gary Tomak are all up for election. None have formally announced if they plan to run again, and did not respond to inquiries from Patch.

During the event, Jonathan spoke about her qualifications, her passion for children and for education, some of the challenges the district faces in providing quality education to our youth.
