An 18-year-old Pleasanton resident sustained critical injuries from the shooting, police say.

PLEASANTON, CA — A pair of 17 and 18-year-olds from Pleasanton were both shot in Hayward Thursday night, according to the Hayward Police Department. The 18-year-old sustained critical injuries.

Hayward police responded to a report from the 17-year-old that he and his friend had been shot at a liquor store near the intersection of Mission and Industrial boulevards and fled the area, according to a department news release. The 17-year-old was treated for gunshot wounds at a local medical facility and has since been released from the hospital, police said.

The 18-year-old sustained critical injuries for gunshot wounds, and remains on life support, according to the release. His family and friends started a GoFundMe that indicates that he died.

“Dennis Bautista, a young man of just 18 years old, has left us a great void in the hearts of his family, friends and loved ones. Sadly, his life was taken from him and thus ended his dreams at such a young age. A month ago he graduated from high school and had many goals and dreams to fulfill. His family is going through great pain and needs help with medical and funeral expenses,” said the fundraiser, which as of Monday has raised $17,290 out of a $35,000 goal.

No suspects are in custody, Hayward police said. Authorities do not believe that this case is related to a Wednesday homicide in Hayward, which saw the death of a 15-year-old boy from Rodeo and the serious injury of a 13-year-old from Hayward.
