A Pickle, a Roman Statesman and a Whole Bunch of Election Signs
If you aren't rubber necking at a dancing pickle and a pizza guy, check out all those election signs!
I think the most exciting intersection in town is the corner of Hopyard Road and Valley Avenue.
Whenever something is happening in the world, be it a presidential race, a gay marriage initiative or a war, people with something to say go there and say it, or wave it or whatever.
And, of course, there's Mr. Pickle and his free stylin' dance moves.

As if that weren't enough, last weekend the pickle was having a dance-off with a guy dressed up as Little Caesar (of pizza fame) himself! So we had a pickle and a Roman statesman frolicking about.
But I digress. It is election season so Hopyard and Valley has become home to a forest of election signs.

Time for a Pleasanton City Council election sign quiz!
1. Whose sign has a star on it?
2. Name two signs that do NOT have red, white and blue.
3. Whose sign is green?
Are you stumped? Are you going to go out now and examine all the signs stuck into the ground near the sweet smell of The Jelly Donut?
Or do you not even LOOK at election signs, much to the chagrin of candidates who probably spend way too much money on these things?
I think election signs are pretty quaint in this day and age. They seem a little pathetically low-tech a la a high school student-body election. (Vote for Chad!) Although in this town students probably post their campaign speeches on You Tube.
If Chad has the coolest signs, or the most signs, he's pretty much guaranteed a win.
So, is there a psychology around choosing election sign colors or is it just the mood of the candidate?
Sure red, white and blue is a no-brainer, but what was Cindy McGovern going for when she chose yellow and black? What if I hate the color yellow? Will I not be able to vote for Cindy? What if I have a mortal fear of bumble bees? But here I am mentioning her in this column, thus giving her some publicity, so maybe her choice of sign colors is working subliminally on me right now as I type. Or maybe it's just that yellow is Cindy's favorite color.
Anyhow, post your answers to this quiz in the comments below. And no, Mr. Pickle is not running for office.
