Ishmeet Dhillon writes a poem about new beginnings and celebrating the new year with a countdown!

Countdown to 2022
-Ishmeet Dhillon
This year we had a lot of moments,
Moments of glee and glum,
Times where we were happy,
And others, not so fun.

We spent some time alone,
And with our family and friends,
Memories were made,
And new beginnings marked old ends.
There were times of sorrow and despair,
We had laughter and cries,
Moments of smiles and frowns,
And times of surprise.

So on December 31st,
With 10 seconds to spare,
Take a deep breath,
And thank those who have always been there.
9 seconds remaining,
Make a resolution,
Are you going to try and lose weight?
Or help with world pollution?
8 seconds on the clock,
Take a look at the people around you,
Remember how they are your support,
And will help you in whatever you do.
Now 7 seconds remain,
Remember to always stay kind,
Be nicer than you were this year,
And listen with an open mind.
6 seconds, tick tock,
Grow out of your comfort zone,
Make new friends and get to know people,
And let your own ideas be shown.
It's the last 5 seconds now,
Remember to take care of yourself,
Make sure you drink water,
And strive for good health.
With 4 seconds left,
Think of something that makes you smile,
Hold it close to your heart,
And think of it once in a while.
On the 3rd second,
Think of a change for the new year,
Maybe start a new hobby,
Or liberate a fear.
With 2 seconds until the clock strikes,
Make a goal for the next 365 days,
Something that you will strive for,
Something you’ve wanted always.
Now with 1 second remaining,
Look at where you are,
And leave all the bad things behind,
Because you are going to go far.
When the clock strikes,
And sings midnight,
Be proud of what you’ve overcome,
You’ve won this year’s fight.
This year has definitely been a lot,
For us and those around,
So let’s put it all behind,
And let’s let new memories be found.
