Foothill's Attendance Drop = $42,900 Loss of Funding

A shooting threat found earlier this week at Foothill High may have cost the Pleasanton school district $42,900 in Average Daily Attendance.

Updated attendance figures show nearly half of Foothill's student body — about 1,000 teens — missed class on Thursday, said Nicole Steward, a district spokeswoman.

The threat, found Tuesday and written on a girls' bathroom wall, said a shooting would occur on campus Thursday.

Steward said school absences recorded Thursday also included students attending field trips, sporting events and illnesses.

The district on Thursday said the shooting threat did not affect student attendance, and that 90 percent of pupils showed up to class.

However, students commenting on Patch were quick to counter the district report by saying classes were half empty. In addition, parents commenting on Patch said they would keep their child out of school in response to the shooting threat.
