Honor Memorial Day In Pleasanton

A look at the city's plan for observing the holiday.

PLEASANTON, CA — Spend Memorial Day honoring veterans at Pleasanton Senior Center.

The Memorial Day Observance event starts at 11 a.m. on May 30. VFW Post 6298 and American Legion Post 237 hosts the event, the city said.

“Boy Scouts will also be placing flags and medallions at Pioneer Cemetery as they have done for several years. They will be placing them on May 28 beginning at 9 a.m.,” the city said.

The holiday, which honors men and women of the military who died in service, was recognized as a holiday in 1971.

On federal holidays, most banks close, and transactions come to a halt. Across the state, Wells Fargo, Chase, Capital One, Bank of America, U.S. Bank and California Bank & Trust will close.

All government offices and schools will also close, courts will not be in session, and the Department of Motor Vehicles will shut down.

In Pleasanton and across the state, the U.S. Postal Service will not deliver on Memorial Day. UPS will not deliver or pick up on Monday. FedEx services will also likely be closed.

Restaurants and grocery stores will likely remain open to accommodate Californians who have the day off.
