PLEASANTON, CA — We all know student athletes who also bring their A-game to other parts of their lives. Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize these heroes making a difference in their communities. We’re working to let all your neighbors know the individual stories behind the leaderboard. This submission comes from Carina Campo-Torres who nominated her son, Nico Torres of Pleasanton.

Why do you believe the star student athlete should be recognized?

Nico has always been very dedicated to his sports and plays more than just baseball. As a multi sport athlete there is no down time yet he seems to manage his academics as well. Today I'd like to recognize Nico as an amazing student, earning excellent grades and making a huge effort to enhance his academics by taking summer enrichment courses as well. How this kids does all of this is with extreme discipline. He is highly motivated and dedicated to his success. As if this isn't enough, he is also the kindest kid you'll ever meet! The smile says it all!

What's one thing you want everyone to know about the star student athlete? Nico loves to give advise. His advise is so profound you would think you were talking to a 40 year old man. He is definitely an old wise soul! Keep up the great work, Nico Torres!
