Mowing Leads To Vineyard Avenue Vegetation Fire In Pleasanton

Firefighters are reminding people of the dangers of mowing dry grass in the afternoon.

PLEASANTON, CA — Firefighters in Pleasanton contained a vegetation fire that ignited Monday just after 1 p.m. off Vineyard Avenue.

"The cause was determined to be from a mowing operation to reduce fuels for fire danger," Battalion Chief Jim Artman said.

Firefighters found 1/4 of an acre of grass burning when they arrived on scene and were able to keep it from spreading any further.

The fire was contained in about 20 minutes with 3 engines and 1 battalion chief, Artman said.

No injuries or structural damages were reported.

As peak fire season arrives with force, firefighters are reminding people to avoid adding to the risk.

"The Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department would like to remind everyone of the hazards of mowing dry vegetation in the afternoon, as fires can easily ignite and spread rapidly when the humidity is low. Please have an extinguisher nearby and make every effort to mow early in the daym" Artman said.
