Philz Coffee Opens New Pleasanton Location, First Drive-Thru In Northern California
The beloved Bay Area chain is hosting the grand opening of its new Santa Rita Road location Wednesday.

PLEASANTON, CA —Major Bay Area history is taking place in Pleasanton Wednesday, and you don’t even have to leave your car to experience it.
On Wednesday, Bay Area coffee staple Philz Coffee is hosting a grand opening at its new Pleasanton location, which is also the company’s first drive-thru in Northern California, and its second drive-thru location overall, according to a Philz news release.
The new location at 1803 Santa Rita Road is now open 5:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays through Fridays, 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesdays. It offers a wide variety of coffee recipes, including inventive offerings like mint mojito, iced coffee rosé, and oatmeal cookie cold brew. It also offers hot and iced tea, coffee beans, and breakfast food like pastries, bagels, croissants, and egg sandwiches.

Philz began as a convenience store in San Francisco’s Mission District in 1973, and opened its first coffee shop in theMission in 2003. Since then, it’s spread all over California, with multiple locations in the Bay Area and the Southland, and has opened a few locations in the Chicago area. Pleasanton is their second Tri-Valley location after one opened in City Center in San Ramon a few years ago.
