Pleasanton Man Used 3 Knives To 'Humanely' Kill His Mother, As More Details Emerge
According to police, one of the knives broke during the stabbing spree that killed a 71-year-old woman.
PLEASANTON, CA — Pleasanton resident Marcus Tilley, 31, confessed to fatally stabbing his 71-year-old mother, Marjory Methvin Tilley, with three knives at their shared home on April 1, according to the Mercury News. Despite describing the act as "quick" and "humane," Tilley's account to police revealed he used two knives initially, breaking one before retrieving a third to continue the attack. After killing her, he took a shower, left his bloody clothes behind, and sat near his mother's body before turning himself in to the police.
Upon arriving at the scene, police found Marjory Methvin Tilley's body in a pool of blood and located the three knives. Tilley was arrested and has been held without bail since. He faces charges of murder with aggravating circumstances, including the use of a deadly weapon. He is scheduled for arraignment on April 23.
In his confession, Tilley attributed his aggression to his mother's long-standing criticism of his financial and employment status, masculinity, looks, and overall worth. He said that the nagging had been a lifelong issue, although he denied any physical abuse. He considered cleaning up the crime scene before turning himself in but decided against it, believing it would appear suspicious.
