Pleasanton Valley Humane In ‘Desperate Need’ Of Adopters
It's kitten season and shelters are filling up.

PLEASANTON, CA — After an increase in an urge to find companionship as the pandemic hit, there is now a major lag in pet adoptions in a lot of areas.
There are a number of possibilities for this, president of Valley Humane Society in Pleasanton Melanie Sadek told Patch.
It could be hesitancy to bring a new pet home when people want to start traveling again or maybe the uncertainty of the economy poses too big of a risk, Sadek said.

“Unfortunately, for the dogs, puppies, cats and kittens — none of this matters,” she said. ‘“They only know that they need a home and their time in a shelter or foster home is WAY too long."
Valley Humane has 30 cats and kittens and 5 dogs and puppies waiting for a new home.

It’s kitten season, Sadek said, and Valley Humane isn't the only one experiencing an excess in pets needing a home, especially felines.
“We have public animal shelters calling because they are bursting with cats and kittens,” she said. “We need the community to help maintain life-saving efforts.”
Share the Care campaign advocates for adopting, promoting and fixing pets — all things that make a big difference in the lives of community pets, Sadek said.
“We don't want anyone to adopt if they aren't ready, but we are asking the public to Share the Care,” she said. “If you are ready for a new furry friend, please adopt. If not, adopt a shelter and help promote their adoptable animals.”
Valley Humane is a nonprofit serving the Tri-Valley since 1987. Anyone interested in adopting can view the pets and fill out an application here.
