PLEASANTON, CA — The Pleasanton Unified School District said there was no reason for students to stay home from school as officials investigated a nationwide social media trend that threatened violence at schools Friday.
Pleasanton police are monitoring the trend and have not found it to be credible here, said Sgt. Marty Billdt. Police are in communication with the school district and encourage anyone who sees anything suspicious to report it to police.
The trend originated on video-sharing app TikTok, which is particularly popular among youth. An image containing an anonymous, vague threat of gun violence was widely circulated.
