Pleasanton Results: Balch, Eicher, Gaidos Ahead, Measure PP Behind

Pleasanton voters seem ready for a new start, with two incumbents and the ballot measure they advocated for trailing.

PLEASANTON, CA — Pleasanton voters seem to be turning against the status quo. As of 11:12 p.m. Tuesday, Councilmember Jack Balch led incumbent Karla Brown in the race for mayor 6,140 to 5,039 (54.92% to 45.08 percent.)

In District 2, former Police Chief Craig Eicher led incumbent Councilmember Valerie Arkin 1,753 to 1,284 (57.72% to 42.28 percent.)

In District 4, Planning Commission Chair Matt Gaidos led fellow Planning Commissioner Vivek Mohan 1,609 to 1,424 (53.05% to 46.95 percent.)

Voters seemed poised to reject Measure PP, a ballot measure proposing a half-cent sales tax increase, with "No" votes at 5,972, or 54.64%, and "Yes" votes at 5,109, or 45.36 percent.

In the race for the Pleasanton Unified School District Board Area 3, incumbent Kelly Mokashi led challenger Donalyn Harris 1,547 to 1,220, or 58.94% to 41.06 percent. In Area 4, Charlies Jones led Jen Flynn 1,003 to 975, or 54.45% to 45.55 percent, as of 11:16 p.m.

As of September, the California Secretary of State reported that 22,310,352 Californians were registered to vote, which accounts for almost 82.92 percent of the state's eligible voting population.

In Alameda County, 950,534 residents are registered to vote, nearly 84 percent of all residents who are eligible. 59.3 percent of registered voters are Democrats, and 11.74 are Republican, a slight rise from 10.9 percent in 2022.

Alameda County has the fourth-highest percentage of Democrats in the state, behind San Francisco, Marin and Santa Cruz counties.
