Which Road in Pleasanton Needs a Speed Bump?

We asked Patch readers on Facebook what streets they thought needed a speed bump. Find out what your neighbors told us.

PLEASANTON, CA - Over 9,000 fatalities occurred nationally during 2014 due to speeding according to the latest statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The data also shows a correlation between a driver’s age and the likelihood of a speed-related accident. As the age of a driver increases, their risk of being in an accident decreases. Men are also more likely to be at the wheel during a speeding accident, according to the study.

While the number of speed-related fatalities have continually decreased since 2005, speeding still remains an issue in many of our Patch communities, including Pleasanton. Readers suggested everything from increased police presence to more stop signs to building less housing to keep traffic at bay.

If you’re frustrated with speeders in a certain part of Pleasanton, you are in good company. We reached out to readers on Facebook, asking which local road they thought needed a speed bump. Here’s what your neighbors told us:

  • "Vineyard Avenue by Kottinger Village Park, all the way down to where it crosses Bernal Avenue."
  • "Denker, behind Donlon Elementary. On both sides of the crosswalk, nearest to Mason St."
  • "Hansen Drive, between Valley and Hopyard."
  • "I second Denker! With school and soccer games, it's a tragedy waiting to happen."
  • "Boulder by Quarry Lane Preschool."
  • "Valley Trails."
  • "Pleasanton Ave between Rose & St. Mary's - over the years the amount of ACE train traffic has tripled and now includes private buses, etc. on a road that is far too narrow for that much traffic."
  • "Multiple places on Main Street. Also need flashing lights in the crosswalk."
  • "Paseo Santa Cruz. They think it's a freeway!"
  • "Muirwood south!"
  • "I agree with Denker behind Donlon. Too many kids walking home or to school, soccer games, etc. and way too many fast drivers."
  • "Rose between Peters and Pleasanton Ave! This is a residential area and all day people speed back and forth. Drivers entering Rose from Division and Augustine have their vision of oncoming cars blocked by parked cars! Those corners should all be painted red. Frankly, all downtown streets need to be monitored and police need to be giving out warnings and tickets if necessary!"
  • "Stanley Blvd. off Santa Rita Road."
  • "Definitely Denker Drive behind Donlon Elementary. A speed bump by the crosswalk near the soccer fields or even better- a 4-way stop at Mason. Cars come flying around that curve and it's an accident waiting to happen."
