Man Attacked Mother In South OC Over Housing Dispute, Police Say
The man was charged with hospitalizing his mother after she threatened to kick him out of her Ladera Ranch home, authorities said.
LADERA RANCH, CA — A south Orange County man was charged with hospitalizing his mother after she threatened to kick him out of her Ladera Ranch home, sheriff's officials said Wednesday.
Elyas Michael Mechekak, 34, was charged Tuesday with attempted murder with a sentencing enhancement for attempted premeditated murder and inflicting great bodily injury on the victim.
He pleaded not guilty at his arraignment in the jail courtroom in Santa Ana Tuesday and was scheduled to return to court for a pretrial hearing July 10 in the Harbor Justice Center in Newport Beach, court records show.

Mechekak was accused of attacking his mother Sunday, the Orange County Sheriff's Department reported. She was hospitalized in an unknown condition. Her name was not released as of Thursday.
The defendant pleaded guilty July 21, 2009, to unlawful possession of a controlled substance and assault with a deadly weapon, both felonies.
