Driver in Fatal Redondo Beach Crash Last Week Identified as Los Angeles Woman

REDONDO BEACH, CA -- The driver of the car that fatally struck a man from China last week in Redondo Beach has been identified, police said.

The woman was identified as Lois Claiborne, 85, of Los Angeles. She driving west on Torrance Boulevard when, for unknown reasons, the car veered off the road and struck Yongsheng Hu, 48, of China, police said. The sedan then hit a wall and overturned.

Hu was walking on the sidewalk at the corner of Torrance Boulevard and Francisca Avenue and was killed by the impact. Claiborne was taken to a hospital for treatment after sustaining injuries in the crash.

Police have not disclosed the cause of the accident or say if charges will be brought against the driver.
