Redondo Beach Pushes for Ballot Measure to Buy AES Power Plant Site

The bond measure would allow the city to buy a portion of the 50-acre site and develop it into a waterfront park.

Redondo Beach, CA — A bond measure making its way through the California legislature may enable the city of Redondo Beach to buy a portion of the site that currently houses the AES power plant.

The California Parks, Water, Climate, and Coastal Protection and Outdoor Access For All Act was approved by the Assembly in late June and will go to the Senate in August for consideration. The bond measure would raise $3.1 billion for parks improvements and the creation of new parks in the state.

Assemblyman David Hadley, R-Torrance, was able to add an amendment that would allow the city to compete for the fund to buy a portion of the 50-acres site for a waterfront park, the Daily Breeze reported.
