Cotati Accordion Festival Releases 2011 Lineup

This year's festival hosts a mix of polka, waltz, mariachi and tango bands — just to name a few.

The Cotati Accordion Festival yesterday released the 2011 lineup of performers — an eclectic mix of polka music, mariachi and tango, just to name a few — set to take the stage August 20 and 21 downtown Cotati.

Saturday kicks off with the Golden State Accordion Club Band, an organization that promotes polka and waltz as well as raises money for student scholarships. Following will be Tangonero, a San Francisco-based Argentine tango band, and mariachi band Ramon Trujillo & his Mariachi Los Caporales.

The Cotati Accordion Festival this year will be celebrating its 21st year. The nonprofit was established in 1991 to promote the love of the accordion and to support local youth service organizations. According to organizers, more than $320,000 has been donated to area youths in support of performing arts programs in local schools.

"With all the budget cuts constantly eliminating school programs, our organization recognizes the need for outside sources to keep these programs alive," the festival states on its website. "We believe that discontinuing the Performing Arts (music, drama & art) is detrimental to the education of future generations."
