Man Kidnaps 2, Crashes Vehicle In High-Speed Police Chase: Authorities

The wanted man nearly hit two detectives and fled at 90 mph as two passengers pleaded with him to stop, police said.

ROHNERT PARK, CA β€” A wanted man led police on a high-speed chase Monday in Rohnert Park with frantic passengers in tow, according to authorities.

Sheriff’s officials tried to arrest 50-year-old Jason Whitmire of Rohnert Park for three outstanding warrants shortly after 7 p.m. in the 8200 block of Camino Colegio, police said. He fled in a vehicle, nearly hitting two detectives and initiating a high-speed chase of up to 90 mph despite pleas from two passengers that he stop, according to police.

Whitmire eventually crashed near Roberts and Petaluma Hill roads and fled on foot, police said, adding he resisted law enforcement but was apprehended with the help of a K-9. A search of his vehicle revealed a loaded gun, according to police.

He was treated for injuries at a hospital and booked into county jail on charges of assault with a deadly weapon against an officer, kidnapping, pursuit, gun possession as a felon, possessing a loaded or non-serialized gun and resisting arrest, police said. His bail was set at $131,000, according to police.
