Pedestrian Hit, Killed by Pickup Truck In Santa Rosa: Police

It was the first fatality in a collision this year in the city of Santa Rosa.

SANTA ROSA, CA β€” A fatal collision between a pedestrian and a pickup truck Wednesday in Santa Rosa remained under investigation, police said.

The Santa Rosa Police Department received numerous 911 calls at 12:06 p.m. about a pedestrian being struck in the 500 block of Sebastopol Road, just west of Dutton Avenue.

Motorcycle officers quickly responded alongside fire and medical personnel, police said. It was determined in a preliminary investigation that the pedestrian was crossing Sebastopol Road outside of a marked crosswalk when he was struck by a 2013 black Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck, SRPD Sgt. Patricia Seffens said.

The pedestrian, an unidentified white man estimated to be in his 30s, was taken to a local hospital by ambulance.

The pickup driver, a 70-year-old Santa Rosa resident, remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation, Seffens said.

At approximately 12:45 p.m., the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the hospital. It marked the city of Santa Rosa's first collision-related fatality in 2023, the sergeant said.

Sebastopol Road was closed between Dutton and Avalon avenues for two hours as the collision was investigated.

Although all lanes of traffic were reopened around 3 p.m., accident investigators were continuing to investigate the crash.

"The identity of the pedestrian and primary cause of the collision, and any possible associated factors, have not been determined at this time," Seffens said.
