But before we jump into Northern California’s top stories: The first week of fall should get underway with some welcome rain in the North Bay, and a patchy drizzle elsewhere Monday evening, before clear skies and sunny days reemerge for the rest of the week.

According to the National Weather Service, the quick bout of precipitation would be the Bay Area's first notable rainfall since May. Coastal areas will be at an increased risk for dangerous rip currents and large waves through Tuesday evening.

"A potent low-pressure system off the Pacific Northwest brings breezier and shifting winds as well as a band of rain across the North Bay early this week," NWS Bay Area wrote Sunday afternoon. "The band of rain will dissipate while moving southeastward across the Bay Area later Monday and Monday night. Dry weather is forecast for the remainder of the week, with the potential for guys north to northwest winds mainly over the coastal waters mid-to-late this week."
