Weekend Storms Dump Snow Over The Sierra
UC Berkeley researchers recorded nearly 17 inches of fresh snow over 48 hours in the Central Sierra.

DONNER PASS, CA — The active turn in winter weather provided a welcome boost in snow totals in the Sierra over the weekend, including a boon for skiers with trips planned to Tahoe-area resorts.
At the UC Berkeley Central Sierra Snow Lab, researchers recorded 16.7 inches of snowfall over 48 hours at the Donner Pass facility, including more than 9 inches that fell between Sunday and Monday mornings. After a very slow start to winter, the lab said the weekend storms helped bring them to 60 percent of their average to date. Forecasters are eyeing another storm possible by mid-week.
Snow totals were even more eye-popping at several ski resorts, led by a whopping 32 inches that fell in 48 hours over Boreal and 20 inches of fresh powder at Sugar Bowl.

Lingering snowfall Monday morning added to the challenges for drivers across NorCal, and chain controls were in place in both directions for several sections of Interstate 80 until 11 a.m.
Chain controls lifted on both EB & WB I-80. Lingering snow showers are possible through this evening so be alert for slick roads. https://t.co/lnlVSpMj4p
