Widespread Rain Possible In The Bay Area Through Saturday: Forecast

While forecasters do not expect a deluge, most of the inland Bay Area is poised to see the first widespread rainfall of the season.

SAN FRANCISCO — A change is in store for the Bay Area after a clear and pleasant stretch of weather, and forecasters expect the latest system will bring at least a little rain to most of the region between Friday night and Saturday afternoon.

Though a few spots picked up some rain early in the week, the next round looks like it should reach just about everyone.

"While rain amount shouldn't be overly impressive (generally below 0.25 inches for most), this looks to be the first widespread wetting rainfall this season for much of the inland Bay Area and Central Coast," NWS Bay Area forecasters wrote Thursday. "Sufficient instability also exists across mainly inland Monterey and San Benito counties for a thunderstorm or two to develop, although potential and confidence are low."

Forecasters also expect some breezy onshore winds to develop as the trough moves through but said the gusts should not be strong enough to elicit advisories or warnings. Temperatures will be running on the cooler side, with highs largely in the 60s to lower 70s.

After the system exits the region, the forecast calls for the return of dry, quiet and sunny weather in the Bay Area next week. Afternoon highs could reach 80 degrees in San Francisco by Wednesday, while inching closer to the 90s in the interior valleys.
