Fairfax Passes Voluntary Water Conservation Resolution
The resolution comes amid a historic drought Marin and most of the American West is now experiencing.
FAIRFAX, CA — The town of Fairfax earlier this month passed a voluntary water conservation resolution.
The resolution calls for restaurants to only serve water to customers upon request and for businesses to review water practices and implement water conservation measures where appropriate.
The resolution also encourages residents to reduce water use in their homes and in their landscaping.

The Town Council approved the resolution at its Sept. 1 meeting.

Persistent warm, dry weather lowered Marin Water's reservoir storage capacity to 52 percent —the lowest level in nearly 40 years.
Storage levels for this time of year are typically more than 90 percent.
Much of the West Coast, including nearly all of California, is experiencing drought conditions.
According to the U.S. Drought Monitor, as of Sept. 7, 93.9 percent of California is in a severe drought, 87.94 percent of the state is in an extreme drought and nearly half (45.62 percent) of the state is experiencing "exceptional drought" conditions.
