Marin Freeway Crash Kills 1

MILL VALLEY, CA — A motorcyclist was killed Thursday morning in a multi-vehicle collision on Highway 101, the California Highway Patrol said.

A motorist trying to avoid debris on northbound Highway 101 north of the State Route 131/Tiburon Boulevard onramp triggered the 8:40 a.m. crash, according to the CHP.

A Mercedes SUV traveling northbound had just crested the top of Alto Hill when the driver noticed debris ahead in their lane, the CHP said.

The driver stopped before hitting the debris but was unable to swerve around it due traffic in the other lanes, the CHP said.

A Jeep Grand Cherokee traveling behind the Mercedes tried to avoid a collision by braking and swerving to the right of the SUV, but the driver collided with the right rear of the Mercedes, the CHP said.

The motorcycle was struck during the collision, ejecting the rider onto the ground, the CHP said.

The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at a local hospital shortly after the collision, according to the CHP.

The other two vehicles remained at the scene and the drivers spoke with investigators, the CHP said.

The right two lanes remained closed at the scene until approximately 10:15 a.m., according to the CHP.
