Community 'Restoration Day' Aims To Spruce Up Local Creek

All are welcome to participate in an event centered on making a creek healthier.

SAN LEANDRO, CA — There's an opportunity to get in some quality time outdoors for a good cause this Saturday via "Restoration Day," the City of San Leandro announced Monday.

From 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., the Friends of San Leandro Creek are hosting Restoration Day at Chabot Park to improve the San Leandro Creek's health. The event will involve "removing invasive weeds and making space for native plants to thrive," officials said.

Volunteers should bring sturdy gloves and gardening tools, if they have them.

"Over an acre of non-native plants (weeds) has been removed at Chabot Park in San Leandro over the last six years," said the Friends of San Leandro Creek team. "This year, we plan to continue our weed pulling, and in November we'll begin to plant, for the first time, native plant species along the banks of San Leandro Creek."
