• Agenda watch: Flock Safety cameras are back on the Oakland city council agenda (oaklandreport.org) — San Leandro drivers should know that Flock license plate reader cameras already operate in the city as Oakland considers a new $2.25 million contract to keep and expand its regional network. Oakland councilmembers will also debate rules on how the cameras can be used, concerns about surveillance in communities of color, and several other major items including small-business tax incentives and public campaign funding changes.
   

• ‘He was gonna kill us': Oakland murder case dismissed for ‘insufficient evidence' (mercurynews.com) — A San Leandro resident had a 2023 Oakland murder charge dismissed after Alameda County prosecutors said there wasn’t enough evidence to move forward. Conflicting witness accounts and questions about self-defense led a judge to flag credibility issues on both sides before the case was ultimately dropped. The shooting stemmed from a late-night dispute over a blocked roadway.
