Going to Check Out the New Bay Bridge Trail? Here's a Map and Video to Prepare You
As this is the first weekend the new eastern span of the Bay Bridge has been open, many curious bikers and pedestrians are likely to check it out for the first time.

This weekend marks the first time many in the Bay Area will have some free time to explore the new eastern span of the Bay Bridge in a whole new way: on foot or via bicycles on the Alan Zuckermann bike path.
Right now the bike path only goes part of the way. Eventually it will stretch 2.2 miles from Oakland to Yerba Buena Island.
A few key details if you're going:
Access
- The Bay Trail in Emeryville or Oakland (see map)
- Burma Road/ Maritime Street in Oakland
Hours
- The trail from Shellmound Street to Maritime Street will be open 24/7
- The pathway along the bridge will be open from sunrise to sunset until contractors complete the bike path. Upon completion, the entire Bay Bridge Trail will be open 24/7.
- Hours are contingent upon construction activities and are subject to change.
Parking
Limited two-hour parking will be available from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on the north side of Burma Road, near the intersection of Burma and Maritime Street.
Safety
- 15-mph advisory speed limit
- Bicycle-mounted officers from the California Highway Patrol will patrol the path.
- Skateboards and skates are not permitted.
- Cyclists must yield to pedestrians.
