Man Shot On BART Train

The victim was in surgery for his wounds. BART service was delayed.

OAKLAND, CA — One man was shot on a BART train at the Fruitvale station in Oakland Friday afternoon, according to BART Police Chief Ed Alvarez, who spoke to reporters shortly before 4 p.m. Before BART was notified of the shooting, the train left the station and continued to Lake Merritt, where the victim was removed and taken to Highland Hospital. He was in surgery when Alvarez gave his briefing.

BART Police reviewed video of the shooting from both station and train cameras. From viewing the video, Alvarez said the victim was targeted by the gunman and was not a random rider who was shot.

Other people were on the train at the time of the shooting.
