San Leandro Earns High Marks, Rankings In Niche Report

San Leandro is one of the Bay Area cities earning top grades for outdoor activities, diversity, weather, and health & fitness.

SAN LEANDRO, CA — Niche.com is a data company that provides insight into neighborhoods and schools throughout the United States. So how does San Leandro fare overall?

San Leandro was ranked No. 49 (out of 6,805 cities) in the “Most Diverse Suburbs in America” category; No. 180 (out of 18,101 cities) in the “Most Diverse Places to Live in America” category; and No. 2,603 (out of 6,805) in the “Best Suburbs for Young Professionals in America” category.

Niche also has “Report Cards” for cities that are based on multiple factors. They feature letter grades ranging from A+ to F, much like school report cards. San Leandro received a B as its “Overall Niche Grade.” In the “subjects” of outdoor activities, diversity, weather, and health & fitness, it earned an A-range grade. For “nightlife,” “public schools,” and “good for families,” it received a B+, B, and B-, respectively. Other grades include two Cs (C+ for jobs and C- for crime & safety), one D+ for “cost of living,” and one D for “housing.” Notably, other Bay Area cities, such as Alameda, Berkeley, and Castro Valley, received the same not-so-great grade for “cost of living.”

Niche, in line with its motto, “Find where you belong,” centers on “connect[ing] people to their future schools and neighborhoods” via its comprehensive data. For analyses, Niche pulls from dozens of public data sources and “over 100 million reviews and survey responses from students, parents and residents” to give people detailed information about a city's infrastructure and offerings.
