San Leandro Man Killed In Hayward Crash

He died Monday evening. A fundraiser has been started for funeral expenses.

HAYWARD, CA — A motorcyclist died in a collision with another vehicle in Hayward on Monday evening, according to police.

The collision was reported shortly after 6 p.m. near Jackson and Grand streets.

The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene and has been identified by the Alameda County coroner's bureau as 31-year-old San Leandro resident Christopher DaSilva.

The driver of the other vehicle, a 55-year-old man, was not injured in the collision, Hayward police said.

A GoFundMe account created on behalf of DaSilva's family to raise money for his funeral had raised more than $2,000 as of Wednesday morning.

The account said DaSilva "was a bright spark in this world and will be deeply missed."

The cause of the fatal crash, the second on Hayward's streets this year, is under investigation and anyone with information is asked to call the Police Department's traffic bureau at (510) 293-7066.
