San Leandro Students Celebrate Successful Summer Internships
The San Leandro Unified School District held a celebratory event for students who participated in their summer internship program.

SAN LEANDRO, CA — San Leandro Unified School District students were recognized for their successful completion of summer internships at a community event, school officials shared Friday.
The “Internship Expo,” held July 23 at Lincoln High School, was a means to “honor the impact of summer internships in helping students build skills, confidence, and connections that last well beyond high school,” officials stated.
San Leandro Unified’s five-week program provides students with internship opportunities that align with their interests and aspirations, with the program itself growing every year it’s offered, according to school officials.

“This program gives students the chance to step into professional environments, develop career skills, and begin to imagine what’s possible for their future,” said Joanne Clark, Senior Director of Educational Services for San Leandro Unified. “We’re proud of their hard work and deeply thankful to our staff and community partners for making this program a reality.”
The internship program included partnerships with several local organizations and businesses, including Kaiser Permanente, Sprouts Farmers Market, the Alameda Health System and the Rob Skate Academy.

During the program, participating students gain on-the-job learning experiences via internship hours and complete related academic work in a “Summer Internship 101” course. They meet weekly with a teacher for check-ins and professional development activities, ultimately working toward an end-of-summer presentation, which they showcase at the expo.
At the event, the students were honored with certificates of achievement, received their earned internship program stipends, and shared reflections about their internship experiences. Their families, San Leandro Unified staff, and community partners were also in attendance.
