A suspicious object that was found at the Palo Alto Caltrain station Wednesday morning caused a scare and resulted in train delays as police examined the item.

Palo Alto police responded to the station, located at 95 University Ave., after the discovery was reported at 9:17 a.m., police Lt. Zach Perron said.

The suspicious item turned out to be old electrical wires sticking out of an object, Perron said. There was no threat to public safety, and no evacuations were made, he said.

Caltrain spokeswoman Christine Dunn said train service was suspended during the brief police investigation, and three southbound trains were delayed by up to 23 minutes because of the incident.
