Press Release from Malti B. Lee:
SAN RAMON, CA — The Lindsay Dirkx Brown Art Gallery, San Ramon CA, presents globe-trotting painter Malti B Lee (b. 1990, United Kingdom) as the commissioned artist for the 2023 San Ramon Art & Wind Festival. On view from May 2 through May 30, 2023, this debut solo exhibition, Malti B Lee: Lost in Color, explores the fusion and contrast of nature in urban environments, transporting audiences across Europe, Asia and America.
More than 25 paintings will be exhibited together for the first time in this debut solo exhibition. These works reflect the experience of millions in urban settings across the globe where pockets of vibrant flowers are found against the backdrop of the city. Characteristically, paintings feature expressive flowers against vivid abstract backgrounds with line-drawn architectural details that anchor each painting to a specific city. Begun in 2022 after relocating to the United States, this collection is a window into Malti B Lee’s international past, working, living and travelling across the globe. “Each painting is inspired by somewhere I’ve been first-hand, there’s a story behind each one,” shares the artist.

“Malti’s paintings have a vibrancy and intrigue that draw in audiences. From her choice of colours and subject matter, to the combination of techniques that she employs, her painting voice is distinct and distinguishable,” says DeeDee Hunt, Hunt & Gather Gallery owner. In a world where there is so much noise, these paintings create the space to transport audiences to a moment somewhere else. Lost in the city. Lost in nature. Lost in Color.
Malti B Lee Ph.D., British Indian artist and arts administrator, has relished living, working and travelling internationally. Professionally, opportunities to work abroad opened up during her time as a doctorate student and later as a management consultant.
