Swarm Of Quakes Rattles East Bay

More than a dozen earthquakes occurred in the East Bay on Sunday morning.

SAN RAMON, CA — More than a dozen earthquakes rattled the East Bay on Sunday morning, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The first quake struck just before 9:40 a.m. about 2.5 miles southeast of San Ramon and had a magnitude of 3.8 and a depth of nearly 6 miles, the survey reported. It was followed by more than a dozen quakes ranging in magnitude from 3.7 to 1.4.

People throughout the East Bay reported feeling the initial quake, including in Danville, Dublin, Pleasanton, Alameda, Castro Valley and Oakland.

Earthquakes with a magnitude of around 3.5 are often felt but rarely cause major damage.
